As all true Trekkies know, yesterday marked the 45th anniversary of Star Trek. It’s hard to believe that the first episode of Star Trek aired on television 45 years ago because Star Trek is still crushin it today. What a lot of people don’t know is that the show was cancelled a few years later, only to resurface again in the 70s

I see more Harry Potter inspired designs now that the adventure is officially over than I ever did when the movies and books were being released. I suppose like any epic series, Harry Potter is now transitioning into becoming a legend, and many times the legends get more attention than the current trends. Look at Star Wars for example. The attention that series gets now is at an all time high. It’s the same for Star Trek, but luckily for us trekkies, Star Trek isn’t officially a legend yet since there is a sequel coming out next year.

Blown by glass blowers lamps are made in the form of a flashlight, pipes, pots, lamps of Aladdin, ambient light bulbs and fluorescent lamps. Nice to see what people think, even when doing such seemingly simple things like light bulbs. Admiration and respect.

If you’re our loyal reader you should remember amazing eco concept of Vincent Callebaut – Lilypad. But Vincent continues to pump out amazing concepts of futuristic eco systems. This time inspired by the organic form of coral he has created utopian eco villages for for 1,000 Haitian families affected in 2010 by an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale. This village is called “Coral Reef”. Built upon seismic piers off the coast of the mainland, the prefabricated, modular units can be fit into a wave-like matrix as space is needed. Each family would have a plot of land to grow their own food. A canyon flows between two rows of housing and is filled with a tropical ecosystem for the local fauna and the flora. Aquaculture farms and grey water recycling plants filter and process the water before sending it into the sea. The entire complex is carbon neutral and powered via a number of different renewable energy sources. Power would be generated from thermal energy conversion under the pier, marine currents, vertical axis wind turbines, and solar photovoltaics.
